Yes, we were all concerned that even during the Erie Rib Fest in early June, that Mother Nature would still be releasing her fury on Erie, PA. We were really worried after nearly 28 days of unrelenting rain that the event would be a wash out. Thankfully, that was not the case.
The 2011 Erie’s Wild Rib Cook Off & Music Festival with it’s new footprint and four days of nearly picture-perfect weather was a resounding success. Even though Saturday morning was a little sketchy when the sky darkened which resembled the impending doom from the movie Independence Day and strong winds came through with a bit of hail….it wasn’t enough to stop the momentum.
Record numbers filled both West Perry Square and East Perry Square Park in the heart of downtown, Erie. The event included more dining tents for friends and families to enjoy their BBQ and fresh roasted ear of corn. Moving the RIB Kidz FUN ZONE to the East Park allowed for a better flow of traffic and parents were able to stand in a central location and watch their little ones scurry from one ride to the next. More vendors were added to the roster with all things from beach wear and sunglasses to custom cornhole boards hand made one of a kind works of art.
The sunshine and warm weather, great local bands, a beautiful tree shaded park location and lots of rib-eating festival goers made this event one for the books.
The Erie’s Wild Rib Cook Off & Music Festival always takes place the Wednesday following Memorial Day. The 2012 dates are May 30, 31, June 1 and 2, 2012. We are already discussing our 22nd Erie Rib Fest… Twenty Two for BBQ!
